OUR JOURNEY
The story of Youturn is one of compassion, resilience, and community spirit. Our course was first charted in 1989, when five volunteers came together to form the Noosa Accommodation Project, providing shelter for six young people experiencing homelessness. What began as a grassroots response to local need quickly grew, fuelled by the determination to create safety, connection, and opportunity for young people.

In 2002, following a tragic loss in our community, we established StandBy Support After Suicide, today a national program providing coordinated care and compassion to individuals and families bereaved or impacted by suicide. Over the years, we expanded further to deliver mental health and family support services, first on the Sunshine Coast, then across Southeast Queensland, and more recently into South Australia.
Today, Youturn is a trusted national organisation, walking alongside people of all ages as they navigate life’s toughest challenges. Our services span housing and homelessness, community and family support, mental health and wellbeing, and suicide postvention, providing care, connection, and hope when it is needed most.
While our Sunshine Coast origins remain a cherished part of our story, our journey has carried us forward, charting new paths to ensure people and communities across Australia feel safe, connected, and supported.
